Mini News - Mail Theft
Posted on Jun 24th, 2025 Comments (0)
This morning, we were notified of a mail theft incident that occurred within our community. Several residents reported that their mailboxes were left hanging open and mail was missing. They have contacted US Postal Inspection Services. If you were affected or noticed any suspicious activity, we strongly encourage you to file a report with USPS.

Recommended Steps to Protect Your Mail
To help prevent future occurrences, you may want to consider the following safety measures:

1. Pick Up Mail Promptly
Avoid leaving mail or packages in your mailbox or at your front door for extended periods.

2. Install Locking Mailboxes
If you do not currently have one, consider installing a locking mailbox insert. This can be done simply without an architectural application.          Alternatively, you may consider replacing the whole mailbox with an upgraded locking mailbox. Please note that this option would require architectural approval as it changes the look of the box.

3. Use Package Lockers or Alternate Delivery Options
If you can’t be home, have packages delivered to secure lockers (e.g., Amazon Locker), your workplace, or a trusted neighbor.

4. Schedule Mail Holds When Away
Use USPS Hold Mail service if you'll be away for several days. This prevents mail from piling up and attracting attention.

5. Sign up for USPS Informed Delivery
This free service allows you to digitally preview your mail and track packages scheduled to arrive. It's a great tool for noticing missing deliveries early and helps you identify whether any important pieces of mail are missing.

Landscaping Reminders

Proper lawn and garden care enhances the appearance of our neighborhood and helps keep property values high. With more than a few homes on the market, we can all benefit from some additional attention to detail with landscaping. Here are some essential landscaping reminders to keep our community looking its best:

1. Weekly Lawn Mowing
During the warm spring and hot summer months, our lawns thrive and grow rapidly. To keep them looking neat and healthy, please mow your lawns once a week. Regular mowing encourages denser growth, prevents weeds, and helps the grass withstand the summer heat. Remember to keep your mower blades sharp and set at the appropriate height for your type of grass.

If you have seen the news lately, you are already aware that there has been an increase in crime in all neighborhoods throughout the Bay Area. Even in San Ramon, which is relatively safe, thefts of opportunity do occur.

What are thefts of opportunity? Simply put, they are quick and easy thefts that can happen anytime (even during the day) that are made possible by a homeowners’ false sense of security. It can be a porch pirate following the Amazon or FedEx delivery driver, someone opening mailboxes to try and find a tax refund check, or an opportune thief checking cars that are parked in the driveway or street that have been left unlocked. The good news is that many of these are preventable with very little effort on your part.

Preventing Porch Pirates
Have your packages shipped to your office rather than your home. If you work from home, grab your packages as soon as they are delivered so they are not sitting at your front door for an extended period of time.
